→ About

Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres (1994) is a spanish-catalan multimedia artist & curator based in Rotterdam (NL).

Her work emerges from filmmaking, which she cross-processes with photography, sound and performance.

Gradually Mar focuses on creating narrative constructions using cinematic tools and feelings.
She applies such through research projects, physical spaces, immersion and experientiality — crafting documentary and research pieces, art objects, to spaces and happenings.

Her themes swing between nature, life-death, inheritance, social impact and universal memory, witchcraft and esotericism. She finds beauty in the grotesque and holds that darkness is the essence of light.

Anita Gispert Vila
IN PROGRESS

            Anita Gispert Vila (Exhibition)

IN PROGRESS.

Anita Gispert Vila (1891-1965) was one of the first photographers in northen Spain.
Inheriting the practice from her father, she became a well-known and beloved presence in her hometown village, Caldes de Montbui.  However, over the passing generations, her legacy faded, and she was often mistakenly perceived as a man due to her signature, represented by "A. Gispert."

2023 — Anita Gispert Vila's great-grandchildren generously gifted her photographic archive to the THERMALIA, the Museum of History in Caldes de Montbui.

2024 — exhibition opening in October 2024, curated by her great-granddaughter, Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres. The proposal includes:
__ 4-month temporal museum gallery space: “Anita Gispert Vila: pioneer photographer” and “Universal Memory” rooms (in production)
__ Permanent XR Exhibition Route “A Window to the Past” (public space intervention - in production)
QR code activation-points using archive photography to dive visitors into the village’s past streetlife.
__ Permanent art installation “Memory Tank” by Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres (pre-production)
A tribute to the village’s roots and its connection with thermal water.
__ Short documentary piece directed by Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres (pre-production)
Academics review Anita’s archive and reflect on the role of pioneer women in history.

Anita Gispert Vila, one of the first female photographers in Caldes de Montbui, Spain, will have her archive collection displayed in a 4-month exhibition at THERMALIA History Museum in October 2024. Curated by her great-granddaughter, the exhibition highlights Anita's pioneering role as a woman photographer and brings her practise and presence back to life. A new proposal involving archive, tech and gamification. A revision and conversation with (through) the photographic archive of the curator’s great-grandmother and the opportunity to honour female pioneers and collective memory.
